Atopic dermatitis is one of the most common allergic skin diseases in dogs and is caused by allergens such as house dust mites or pollens which stimulate an exaggerated immune response in atopic dogs. The disease is chronic, recurrent and may require lifelong management.

ATOPICA (Cyclosporine) selectively acts on the immune cells involved in the allergic reaction. ATOPICA (Cyclosporine) reduces the inflammation and itching associated with atopic dermatitis.

Canine atopy can be difficult to distinguish from flea allergy dermatitis, scabies, demodectic mange, food allergies, and other skin diseases. The diagnosis can be suspected based on the history, location of skin lesions, and seasonal pattern of occurrence. Skin scrapings, bacterial and fungal cultures, skin biopsy and a trial hypoallergenic test diet should be considered before starting a course of treatment for atopy. It is important to treat and eliminate fleas as flea allergy dermatitis further complicates the condition.

ATOPICA should be given at least 2 hours before or after feeding. Insert the capsule directly into the pet's mouth. If a dose is missed, next dose to be administered (without doubling) as soon as possible, but dose no more than once daily.

ATOPICA will initially be given daily until a satisfactory clinical improvement is seen. This will generally be the case within 4 weeks. If no response is obtained within the first 8 weeks, the treatment should be stopped.

WEIGHT (lbs) / DOSAGE (Btwn 1.5 to 3.0mg/lb. daily)

4 - 6.5lbs: 1 x 10mg

6.6 - 9lbs: 2 x 10mg

9.1- 16lbs: 1 x 25mg

16.1 - 33lbs: 1 x 50mg

33.1 - 64lbs: 1 x 100mg

64.1 -79lbs: 1 x 100mg + 1 x 50mg

79.1 - 121bs: 2 x 100mg

Once the clinical signs of atopic dermatitis are satisfactorily controlled, dose adjustment should only be carried out in consultation with Veterinarian.

Do not use ATOPICA in dogs less than six months of age or less than 4.4 lbs (2kg) in weight. ATOPICA is not for use in breeding dogs, pregnant or lactating bitches.

The occurrence of adverse reactions is uncommon. Most common are vomiting and diarrhea. Generally are mild and transient and do not require the cessation of the treatment. Divided dosing or administration with a small amount of food may help to resolve. Other side effects are rare and may include lethargy or hyperactivity, anorexia, skin reactions such as lesions or change of hair coat, red and swollen pinnae, muscle weakness or muscle cramps. These effects generally resolve spontaneously after treatment is stopped.

If any serious effects or other effects not mentioned occur, consult Veterinarian.
